PathFinders Global was born from the love of teaching. Our founder, Joshua Mata, tutored Mathematics and English throughout his college career at the College of the Redwoods and the University of California, Berkeley. In addition, Mata served as the Vice President of Regional Affairs for the Student Senate for California Community Colleges – a 501(c)3 organization representing all 2.1 million California Community College Students; where he regularly met with hundreds of students throughout the state to teach student empowerment and advocacy.
In 2021, Mata accepted a corporate recruiting position in Tempe Arizona, but sought to continue his teaching career by volunteering to tutor Mathematics at local community colleges and high schools in Arizona. After discussing his volunteer efforts, Mata’s longtime friend, Travis Rowitsch (Co-Founder), spoke to Mata about the impact that having an Environment of Learning could have on high school students in Arizona, and the interests that University students have to volunteer.
Together, Mata and Rowtisch founded PathFinders Global in late 2021. Since our founding, we have built a board of directors with a combined 30+ years of teaching experience and 20+ years of non-profit leadership experience. We have partnered with campus organizations at various Arizona Universities and we are on track to opening our first after-school programs in the Fall of 2022.
